Description and diagnostic features
It has the most gorgeous smell of jasmine flowers.
The brown shelf fungi is common on dead or dying wood in the southern cape area. The white spore bearing underside is very flat. Hence applanatum.
The fan shaped upper side of the shelf is very powdery brown from the spores that fell out the bottom and were pulled up through the air with the magnetic or electric field created by the shelf.

Fruiting body looks like a shelf growing horizontally out of the tree or wooden post.
Uses
Used to perfume face-paint made of Hydnora that lightens the skin.
Drinking tea made of the fruiting body also makes one feel happier.
